The Sheward Partnership: New Employee Onboarding Checklist

Using the ADDIE framework, I started with a needs analysis of their existing Excel version, then reorganized the content into a Google Docs outline prototype to clarify responsibilities, individuals, timelines, and task flow for an internal team of five.

From there, I built a refreshed checklist in Google Sheets, now fully shareable, visually aligned with TSP’s branding, and easier to navigate allowing real-time edits.

The Problem

The Sheward Partnership, a 40 employee architecture firm in Philadelphia, needed a more efficient and user‑friendly New Employee Onboarding Checklist. Their existing Excel version lacked clarity, consistent structure, and easy collaboration. Responsibilities, timelines, and task flow were difficult to track across an internal team of five, creating inconsistencies in the onboarding experience. 

The Solution

Using the ADDIE framework, I conducted a needs analysis to identify gaps in the existing checklist and reorganized the content into a structured Google Docs prototype to clarify ownership, sequencing, and workflow.

I then redesigned the checklist in Google Sheets, creating a fully shareable, visually aligned, and easy‑to‑navigate tool that supports real‑time updates. Key enhancements included:

  • Clean, consistent typography and color styling aligned with TSP’s brand

  • Drop‑down menus for task status

  • A notes column for quick communication

  • Sections organized by timeline: pre‑boarding, first day, first 30 days

  • A new 30‑day check‑in to strengthen employee retention and performance

This redesigned checklist now provides a streamlined, branded, and collaborative onboarding experience for the entire team.
